
The new Chile Ambassador to NZ is HE Manahi Pakarati. She hails from Rapa Nui (Easter Island). HE Manahi was Consul of Chile in NZ from 2001 to 2006.
On 26th June 2024, Excellency Manahi invited her pacific colleague Heads of Missions to lunch at the Dockside where she introduced herself. Pacific Heads of Missions (PIHOMs) warmly welcomed her to Wellington.
Easter Island is a special territory of Chile, the Latin American nation. Its people are Polynesians, and they speak a language that is similar to Cook Islands and Māori languages. It is famous for its nearly 1,000 statues, called Moai, created by early Rapa Nui people.
