The High Commissioner of Vanuatu to New Zealand, HE Jimmy Nipo, paid a visit to the NZ National Operation Center in Wellington to meet the members of the team.
On behalf of the government of the Republic of Vanuatu, he thanked the team for their tireless efforts and commitment around the clock since 17th December 2024 – the day, the 7.4 magnitude earthquake devastated the CBD of Vanuatu’s capital and causing 14 deaths and injured more than 200.
He praised the team for sacrificing their time which they should be spending with their families especially at this time of the year when the air is rife with festivities. He encouraged them to take time off to spend with their families in the coming days.
NZ did excellently in its response with a total of 6 flights of assistance to Vanuatu: 2x P8 Military surveillance flights, 2xC130 Hercules flight with equipment and search and rescue, 2xBoeing 757 flights with relief and returning with NZ citizens.
NZ has indicated to the Vanuatu High Commission that they are planning two more flights for 27th and 28th December 2024 for delivering relief.
Tank yu tumas, NZ!
Thank you very much, NZ!
