
Vanuatu’s Telecommunications, Radiocommunications, and Broadcasting Regulatory Authority (TRBR) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with NZ Broadcasting Standards Authority (NZBSA) in Wellington on 23rd May 2025.
Both Parties acknowledge and aim to cooperate and collaborate in terms of information provision, expertise, and advice on broadcasting matters as appropriate and agreed. Areas of collaboration may include:
i. Broadcasting Regulations.
ii. Complaints management and resolution services.
iii. Public education and engagement related activities.
iv. Any other relevant area of possible collaboration agreed by the Parties
The collaboration and cooperation between the Parties is expected to center on the following but is not limited to:
i. Information about complaints management systems.
ii. Voluntary capacity building between the Parties.
iii. Sharing of best practices and international benchmarking practices.
iv. Sharing of relevant and appropriate information.
v. Opportunities to observe NZBSA operations/processes (including complaints determination hearings/meetings)
vi. Consultations on certain Regulations/Regulatory frameworks
vii. Dialogue and development of legal instruments addressing privacy principles.
viii. Stimulate discussion on learning of new approaches and good practices.
ix. Stimulate discussions on Complaint Handling processes and promote enforcement of the processes.
x. Any other strategy deemed necessary and appropriate by the Parties.
The MOU was signed between the Regulator of TRBR, Mr. Brian and the CEO of NZBSA, Mrs. Stacey Wood witnessed by Vanuatu High Commissioner, HE Jimmy Nipo and NZBSA Legal Manager, Helen Cruse.
