Solomon Islands new High Commissioner to NZ made a cutesy call on Vanuatu High Commission on the 26th of June 2025.
HE Ishmael Avui hails from Guadal Canal island - a very senior leader in his country. He is a former Member of Parliament (MP) who previously held several ministerial portfolios including, Lands, Housing and Survey; Home Affairs, National Unity and Peace; and Justice.
HE Ishmael Avui is a distinguished Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), served with distinction as the MP for East Central Guadalcanal from 2014 to April 2024.
In his former years as a Public Servant, HE Avui was permanent Secretary to Ministry of Public Service; Deputy Secretary to Cabinet; Deputy Clerk of Parliament; and Deputy government Archivist.
He is a HRM Master graduate from Monash University in Australia and a post-graduate degree holder in Eco-Soc studies from Manchester University in UK.
HE Ishmael will present his credentials to Governor General, HE Dame Cindy Kiro on the 16th of July 2024. HE takes over office from HE Eliam Tangirongo who ended his term in 2024.
The High Commission of the Republic of Vanuatu wishes to congratulate the government of the Solomon Islands for appointing such a distinguished individual to represent its nation in NZ. The Mission also congratulates HE Avui on his appointment and wishes him all the best in his new role.
